The Cookout: Virtual Black Joy
Time & Location
About the Event
In response to the current racialized injustice and police brutalization of Black people, The Cookout is a virtual experience that seeks to conjure, protect, and sustain Black Joy. Additionally, this event seeks to push back against the circulating images of death and perpetual traumatization of the Black psyche by recentering the focus on laughter, living and movement. Set-up in hour-long increments of twelve sessions this event will be led by Black psychologists, culinary artists, yoga instructors, musicians, comedians, poets, dancers, social influencers, and historians who are experts in their field. This experience will provide space for Black people across the diaspora and 50% of all paid facilitators will be Boston-based Black artists. Through this radical gathering, we hope to create a sanctuary for Black self-care, survival and jubilee.
