Reece Cotton
effortlessly fuses humor with controversy
Reece Cotton became a stand-up comedian in 2015 to cope with the loss of her younger brother Javonee. In honor of his memory, Cotton founded the Javonee Cotton Scholarship for Comedic Excellence. Cotton performs regularly at The Funny Bone Comedy Club and Caroline's on Broadway. She made her festival debut in 2016 and made her television debut in 2017 on Comedy Central's Hart Of The City with the legendary Kevin Hart. She made her international stand-up debut as a finalist in the 2018 Hong Kong International Comedy Festival and has been chosen as a Rising Star by the 2019 North Hollywood Comedy Festival. During the 2020 pandemic, Cotton stayed busy performing virtually and securing deals with industry titans from travel to tech, including Interactions LLC & TripAdvisor. In 2021, Cotton got back to the bigger stages and opened for comedic rock star Michael Blackson. Cotton also featured as a panelist for the United Kingdom's Funny Women Around The World industry event.
Cotton founded a live stand-up series called Comics Rising; which delivers curated entertainment in celebration of empowering movements throughout her city and beyond. Comics Rising made it's festival debut in 2021. You can read more about her work in The Boston Globe or watch her journey on WCVB NewsCenter 5 CityLine Boston, American Broadcasting Company.
"Comedian Reece Cotton uses stand-up as comic relief from tragedy."

Cotton's original comedy album recording debut Pitbull Pride was scheduled to take place at The Rozzie Square Theater in front of a live audience on Saturday, March 28th 2020. However, like much of the world, a global pandemic derailed those plans. Since that time, Cotton has amassed thousands of followers on Tik Tok and surpassed one million views across social media. In lieu of touring, Cotton's increasingly popular online presence has opened up new opportunities, such as sponsorships and passive content creator income. Cotton takes pride in using her platform to help raise awareness for social good, the most recent being Black Girls Code & Autism Speaks. Cotton also utilizes her talent, time and resources to help fundraisers, including those that support the LGBT+ community, most notably Howard Brown Health's 2021 ChiQ event.
Cotton's stand-up routine draws from her experiences as an African American woman from the big city with strong country roots. The proud granddaughter of a military veteran and pastor. After graduating from Tufts University, Cotton worked in software development but the soul shattering loss of her younger brother landed her in a very dark place. It wasn't until Cotton took a leap of faith and agreed to tell jokes at a local nightclub that her bipolar depression began to subside. To the pleasant surprise of family members, even though Cotton's first attempt at comedy was poorly received, she tried again the very next night and has never looked back.
Cotton credits her success to hard work and the unwavering support of family, friends and to those who took the time to mentor her in comedy.
New date for Cotton's debut comedy album recording to be announced.
